Lippan mirror art, made at home

Make traditional Indian Lippan mirror art at home. Round and Jharokha kits with clay, glue, mirrors, tool and step-by-step instructions.

Lippan art kits

Lippan (mud and mirror work) is a traditional art form from Kutch, Gujarat. Each kit has everything you need to make your own at home: a round board, clay, glue, a shaping tool, mirrors and step-by-step instructions.

What's in the kit

  • 8 or 12 inch round MDF board (see each kit)
  • Clay
  • Glue
  • Shaping tool
  • Mirrors in this design's shapes (add more if you like)
  • Step-by-step instructions

Choosing your mirrors

  • Each kit comes with its design's mirror shapes already picked; every shape is shown on the product page
  • Each shape is a bag of roughly 80 mirror pieces
  • Swap any shape for another, or add extra shapes on the product page; the price updates as you pick

Jharokha mirror kits

Make your own mirror-work Jharokha, inspired by the ornate windows of Indian palaces. Each frame has opening doors on hinges and a central mirror, ready for you to decorate in traditional Lippan (clay and mirror) style.

What's in the kit

  • 15 mm thick MDF frame with doors and hinges
  • Central mirror
  • Mirrors in 6 different shapes
  • Clay
  • Glue
  • Dotting and shaping tool
  • Step-by-step instructions

Skill level

  • Suits all levels: keep the clay lines simple, or add more detail as your confidence grows
  • How long it takes depends on the design and how much detail you add

Ages and materials

  • Suitable for ages 8 and up. Younger children can join in with an adult doing the mirror work.
  • Contains small mirror pieces with cut edges. Not a toy, and not for children under 3.
  • Includes air-dry clay and craft glue. Keep both away from eyes and mouths, use in a ventilated room and wash hands after making. Follow the safety wording on the glue's own label.
  • The finished piece is decorative. It isn't food-safe and shouldn't be left with young children.
