Who we are

This website is run by Kalarshi - Indian Arts ("Kalarshi", "we", "us"), a family-run business based at 3 Cloister Garth, St Albans AL1 2HT, United Kingdom. You can reach us at kalarshi.arts@gmail.com or on WhatsApp (opens in a new tab).

These terms apply when you buy a kit from this website or book a workshop, event or Arts Club place with us. Please read them before you order. By placing an order you agree to them.

Nothing in these terms reduces your legal rights as a consumer. If anything here conflicts with the law, the law wins. Your right to cancel an order and to return faulty goods is set out in delivery and returns; how we handle your personal information is in our privacy policy.

Orders

The products on this website are an invitation for you to place an order, not an offer to sell. Your order is an offer to buy. A contract is formed when we send you an order confirmation email. If we cannot fulfil your order — because something has sold out, or we have made a pricing mistake — we will tell you and refund you in full.

  • You may order up to 20 of any one item in a single order. For more, message us.
  • Kits where you choose mirror shapes are packed to the shapes you picked. Those are recorded on your order confirmation, so please check them before you pay.
  • We sell to consumers and to businesses booking workshops. We do not sell for resale.

Prices and payment

  • Prices are in pounds sterling and include VAT where it applies.
  • Delivery is £3.95 per UK order, free over £50.00. The total is shown before you pay.
  • Payment is taken by Stripe on their own secure checkout page. We never see or store your card number.
  • We may change prices at any time, but a change never affects an order we have already confirmed.

If a product is listed at an obviously wrong price — a decimal point in the wrong place — we are not obliged to sell it at that price. We will contact you, and you can confirm at the right price or cancel for a full refund.

What is in a kit

Each product page lists what the kit contains. Kits are made by hand in small batches, so boards, clay colour and mirror pieces vary a little between kits — that is the nature of the craft, not a fault. Mirror shape bags hold roughly 80 pieces; "roughly" means we count by weight, not individually.

Photographs are as accurate as we can make them, but colours look different on different screens, and the finished piece in a photo was decorated by us — your kit arrives undecorated, ready for you to make.

Delivery

We deliver within the United Kingdom only. Costs, timings and your right to cancel are in delivery and returns. Risk in the goods passes to you when they are delivered to the address you gave us; please make sure that address is right.

Workshops, events and team bookings

Workshops are not sold through this website. You send us an enquiry, we reply with availability and a price, and a booking is confirmed when we both agree it in writing (email or WhatsApp is fine). The cost shown by the workshop builder is an estimate to help you plan, not a quote.

  • Deposit: we ask for 25% of the agreed price to hold a date, with the balance due on or before the day. The deposit is refundable if you cancel more than 14 days before the date.
  • Minimum booking: private sessions have a minimum charge, shown on the workshops page. Small groups pay that minimum rather than the per-person total.
  • Cancelling or moving a date: more than 14 days before, we will move it or refund the deposit. Inside 14 days we will do our best to move it, but the deposit may be kept, because we will have turned other work away and bought materials.
  • Numbers: tell us your final number at least 7 days before. We charge for that number or the number who attend, whichever is higher, since materials are bought per head.
  • If we have to cancel: we will offer you a new date or a full refund, including your deposit. We are two people, so illness does occasionally happen; we will tell you as soon as we know.
  • What we need from you: tables, chairs and a little floor space at your venue, and access to set up beforehand. We bring everything else, set up and clear away.

A booking for a workshop on a named date is a leisure activity for a specific date, which the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 exempt from the 14-day cancellation right. The notice periods above are what apply instead.

Arts Club

The Kalarshi Arts Club is an annual membership. It is not open yet, and joining the waitlist costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Full membership terms — price, what is included, and how to cancel — will be set out before anyone is asked to pay.

Using this website

The words, photographs, designs and kit instructions on this site belong to Kalarshi. You are welcome to photograph what you make and share it — we would love to see it. Please do not copy our designs, instructions or photographs to sell kits or run workshops of your own.

Lippan, batik and block printing are traditional Indian art forms belonging to the communities that developed them, not to us. Nothing here claims otherwise; our guides say where each craft comes from.

Safety

Kits contain small mirror pieces with cut edges and are not suitable for children under 8. Please read the instructions before you start and keep clay and glue away from small children and pets. At workshops, follow the guidance we give on the day.

Our responsibility to you

If we fail to meet these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking them or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for unforeseeable loss, or for business losses — if you are buying for a business, we have no liability for loss of profit, business, contracts or opportunity.

We never exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so. That includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, and for breach of your legal rights in relation to the goods.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version that applies to your order is the one published when you placed it, and the date at the top of this page tells you when it last changed.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your own courts.

If something has gone wrong, please tell us first at kalarshi.arts@gmail.com — most things are quicker to sort out directly.
